SOGC Websites Win International Awards for Public Education
Two Canadian health websites produced by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) were presented with Aesculapius Awards of Excellence today, in recognition of excellence in communicating health information to the public. The awards, presented by the Maryland-based Health Improvement Institute, were awarded to www.sogc.org and www.sexualityandu.ca for their contributions to health education on sexual and reproductive health. - July 18, 2006
Women’s Health Specialists Welcome Cancer Prevention Vaccine
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of Canada (GOC), and The Society of Canadian Colposcopists (SCC) welcomes the latest breakthrough in the fight to prevent cervical, vulvar, vaginal and other anogenital cancers and disease caused by the Human papillomavirus, commonly referred to as HPV. Together, the three associations strongly commend Health Canada for moving quickly to make this vaccine available to Canadian women.

New recommendations from national ob/gyn society address Depo-Provera®, bone loss
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) today released new guidelines for Canadian healthcare professionals to provide clear recommendations on the use of the injectable contraceptive Depo-ProveraŽ (Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate [DMPA]). The guidelines arrive following industry and government warnings linking the drug to the loss of bone-mineral density (BMD). -
